In a hot Welgelegen summer it is hard to tell if the pool is leaking or just evaporating. We find out first, then repair, resurface or reline the pool so the new finish goes onto a shell and plumbing that actually hold water.
Welgelegen is part of the Parow area, on the lower slopes of the Tygerberg Hills next to Plattekloof and Panorama, with a mix of family homes and townhouses. Many of the pools here have been around for a long time. They went in when the houses were built and have been topped up with a hosepipe every summer since.
That topping up is often the first clue. Inland summers are hotter and drier than at the coast, so some loss is normal, but a pool that needs water every couple of days usually has a problem in the shell, the fittings or the pipes under the paving. Resurfacing over that problem wastes money, so we test before we quote.

Once the leaks are fixed, the surface comes next. Both finishes work well on an older family pool, and the better one comes down to the condition of the shell and how much upkeep you are happy with.

For a pool whose shell is sound but whose plaster has gone pitted and stained, a new marbelite coat is the more affordable fix. We take back the damaged layer, fill the cracks, apply a bonding coat and plaster it fresh. It keeps the familiar look of a traditional Cape pool.
A shell with lots of fine cracks or a history of repeat leaks is often better off with a fibreglass lining. The layers bond to the old surface and create a watertight skin over the whole pool. It is also a sensible choice if you are tired of scrubbing algae out of porous plaster.

Leak work often turns up other jobs, like a tired pump or loose tiles at the waterline. We handle all of it in one project, with one team and one quote.

A methodical test of the shell, pipes and fittings to find exactly where the water goes.

Older pipework under the paving is repaired or replaced where it has cracked or perished.

New tiles and coping repairs that tidy up the edge of an older family pool.

We check that the equipment is sized right and not leaking at the pump house.

We drain into an on-site bladder so the same water can go back in after the work.

Simple, regular care keeps a renovated pool clear and the equipment in good order.
Call us if you are topping up more than once or twice a week, there are damp patches in the lawn near the pool, or the pump draws air and the filter pressure keeps jumping.
Our team works across the Northern Suburbs, covering Welgelegen, Parow, Plattekloof, Panorama, Monte Vista and Goodwood.
A Northern Suburbs pool can lose a noticeable amount of water to evaporation on a hot, windy day, and that is where many owners get stuck. Is it the weather or a leak? We run a proper test with the pump on and off, which shows whether the loss is in the shell or in the plumbing that only carries water while the pump is going.
On an older property the pipes are often buried under paving or a deck that has been redone since the pool was built. We find the leak before lifting anything, so only the paving that has to come up comes up. Then the resurfacing goes ahead on a pool that holds water.
We measure water loss, inspect the surface and check the plumbing and equipment.
You receive a written quote covering leak repairs and the finish we recommend.
We drain the pool, repair leaks and cracks, and prepare the shell for its new surface.
We apply marbelite or fibreglass, refill, balance the chemicals and run the system.

Some loss is normal in a hot, dry summer, especially on windy days. If the pool drops more than a bucket of pool water placed next to it, or you are topping up every few days, it is worth having it tested.
Only where the leak is. We pinpoint it with pressure and dye testing first, so we open the smallest area possible and put the paving back afterwards.
Often parts of it can. We pressure test each line, repair the sections that fail and only replace pipes that are cracked or perished.
A fibreglass lining seals the shell, but it cannot fix a cracked pipe under the paving. That is why we always find the source first and then choose the finish.
Yes. We work on private pools at family homes and on smaller pools in townhouse complexes. We can arrange the visit with the owner or with the managing agent.
Tell us how much water your Welgelegen pool is losing and what the surface looks like, and we will arrange a free site visit and written quote.
