A lot of Welgemoed pools were built with the house, decades ago, and the original marbelite has done its time. We resurface, reline and repair pools across the suburb, from the streets around the golf course to the homes higher up below the nature reserve, and we work around big trees, sloping gardens and family routines.
Welgemoed is an established suburb on the slopes of the Tygerberg, with big gardens, mature trees and plenty of homes that have had the same pool since they were built. Those pools were made to last, and many are still structurally sound. The surface is usually what gives in first.
After years of hot inland summers, chlorine and leaf stains, old marbelite turns rough, blotchy and porous. Pipes laid when the house went up can crack as trees grow and the ground settles on a slope. We check the shell, the plumbing and the equipment together, so you know what you are really dealing with before you pick a finish.

An older pool gives you two sensible routes. A fresh marbelite coat keeps the classic look, while fibreglass seals the shell in a new skin. The right choice depends on how the shell has aged, and we tell you plainly what we find.

If the shell is solid and the pool holds water well, re-marbeliting is often all it needs. We remove the tired top layer, cut out drummy patches that sound hollow when tapped, repair the cracks and plaster a new finish. Many owners use the chance to change colour, from plain white to a deeper blue or grey.
Some older pools have been re-plastered more than once and the surface keeps failing. In that case a fibreglass lining is often the more lasting fix, because it bonds over the existing shell and closes up the porous areas. The smooth finish also makes it harder for leaf stains and algae to take hold.

Older pools rarely need just one thing. We take care of the tiling, plumbing, equipment and leak work in the same job, so the pool comes back working properly and not only looking better.

Fresh tiles at the waterline give an older pool a clean, updated edge.

Repairs for the cracks that show up when a pool sits on a sloping, settling plot.

We trace water loss through the shell, the old plumbing and every fitting.

Equipment that works hard through long, hot Northern Suburbs summers.

Your pool water goes into a bladder on site and is pumped back in when the work is done.

Regular care helps a new finish cope with leaves, pollen and summer heat.
Have it looked at if the walls feel like sandpaper, brown leaf marks will not brush off, or the level drops faster in a week than the weather alone can explain.
We cover the Northern Suburbs, including Welgemoed, Bellville, Plattekloof, Panorama, Tyger Valley and Loevenstein.
Many homes here are built on a slope, with the pool on a terrace and the garden stepping down below it. Before work starts we check where the old plaster can be carried out, where a skip can stand on the street and where the drained water will be held. On a steep driveway that planning saves days.
Trees are the other big factor. The suburb is green and leafy, which is lovely, but roots find old pipes and leaves end up on the pool floor for much of the year. We pressure test the plumbing before any resurfacing, and we suggest booking the work between autumn and early spring, so the job is finished and the water balanced before the first hot weekend of summer.
We test for water loss and check the surface, shell, pipes, tiles and equipment.
You get a written quote for resurfacing, relining or repairs, and why we suggest it.
We drain into a bladder, remove weak plaster, fix cracks and sort out the plumbing.
The new surface goes on, then we refill, balance the water and show you the equipment.

Usually, yes. Most older concrete shells are still sound, and it is the surface, tiles and plumbing that have worn. We check the structure first and will tell you honestly if something bigger is needed.
They can. Roots from big garden trees sometimes crack or block old pipes, which shows up as water loss or weak flow at the returns. We pressure test the lines and repair or re-route the damaged sections.
We look at access during the site visit and plan the route for materials and rubble before we start. On steeper properties that can mean wheelbarrows, ramps or carrying by hand, and we keep the driveway and street clear.
Fibreglass is smooth and non-porous, so leaf stains and algae have less to grip and come off with a brush. A fresh marbelite surface also cleans well, as long as the water is kept balanced and leaves are not left lying on the floor.
Plan on about one to two weeks of work, plus curing time before refilling. Rain or extra repairs can stretch that a little, and the expected timeline is set out in your quote.
Send us a few details about your Welgemoed pool and we will book a free site visit to look at resurfacing, relining, leaks or repairs.
